| We bought
Peanut on July 28th/2002 …she was just 3 years old at the time. The story
on her was that she was trained as a sulky racer. Apparently, she was
more of a follower than a leader at the time. We were told that a rider
had been on her back 4 times…but we doubted a saddle had ever been on
her back. She was quiet and obedient ..and well, beautiful so we bought
her. Riding her was a breeze…if only they were all that easy! She was a bit green but very accepting and willing to learn. She enjoys leaving the property to go for adventurous rides…and takes to new things easily. She is very inquisitive! In fact, there was a time only months after we got her, when the neighbors cows broke out and were all over the place. We saddled up Peanut and Jake hoping to be able to lend a hand getting the bovines off the road etc. Well…it was the funniest thing! Jake - a bombproof ¼ horse whom you would expect would have no problem, was completely intimidated by the animals…and Peanut, she understood within minutes what I wanted and took to the task at hand with fervor! Peanut is very loving and affectionate. She will stand for hours to be groomed and can never get enough attention. She is trustworthy and great with all the people that enjoy riding her. She has no qualms with children or the inexperienced, she just tries her best to understand her rider and have a pleasant time. Before very long Peanut became lead mare in our little herd, a title she now shares with Spooky. I have a feeling that Peanut would be a much better race horse now that she has come into her own….but I could never give her up or send her back to the track…she loves her life too much! |
